From price compare:

GTX 285 = $400+
HD 4890 = $260+

The 285 usually beats 4890 by 5-15% but can cost 50% more. At times, especially low resolutions and without aa, it can actually be worse.

If you have money, go 285. Otherwise 275 or 4890

alright well i just got back home and saw a 4850X2 2GB for $360, and the gtx goes for $430

performance wise which one is better? and does the 4850X2 micro stutter like quad 295?

im kinda edging for 285 cause its single gpu(no microstutter) and i get 90 day step up program, i heard the 5800 series will be coming out at around july, which means a 300 series will arise soon after, or even before which should allow me to step up...

anyway on saturday i need to make a decision. thanks for the answers guys!

can someone tell me why the 275 beats the 4890!? i mean, the core clock and ram of the 4890 is better than 275. what makes the 275 better?

gtx295 beat 4850x2

You really think so? Have you read through this? Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 1GB Review

I would say performance wise, the 4890 isn't as far behind the GTX285 as you make it out to be. In some instances the 4980 is FASTER. So if you look at the price as well, pffffft! No contest. I would go for the 4890.

i saw the hardware cannucks reveiw for the 4890 but check this out XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 XXX Edition Video Card Review :: Introduction :: Motherboards.org the 285 spanks 4890 hard and leaves a tattoo mark, this is why i hate relying on reviews, one shows one is slightly better, another shows same, another shows the other one is much better... :\ if only there was a standard then picking would be much easier
