My System Specs

Default Upgrade to What??? (Using 9600GT)

Hi, i'm currently using a XFX 9600GT on a 22' monitor and i'm getting ok (20-30 fps) for many games on HIGH ie: Race DRiver GRID.

I'm wondering if it is worthwhile to upgrade to a more powerful card? like the GTX250?? on sale at NCIX for $130

Any suggestions are appreciated

THX

Well, if your game are going like you want stay with this card it's a pretty good quality price one. But if you want more performante going with the GTS250 or 4850 would be realy good.

I would personally go for a GTX 260 Core 216. I dont see the point in buying a brand new card thats not a big jump from your current card. You would want your card to last you a good 2 years. Heck I've been using my BFG 7950 GT OC for a good 3 years now and I'm only upgrading now to a GTX 285. Whats your price range and current specs?

for that resolution the hierarchy would be thus,
9800gt<4830<9800gtx/gts250<4850<4870/gtx260. Anything more than this would be a waste of money @ that resolution. If you want to upgrade please list your current system specs and budget for the upgrade as well as what games you currently play and what you hope to play.

Id say get the GTS 250, 9800GTXs on 16:10 resolutions offer pretty good performance especially for $130. And you will see a huge improvement over that 9600gt going to that GTS 250.

Anything more then the GTS 250 is going to bottleneck on your system. If you lower the graphics on crysis to some gamer and some mainstream you will be able to play with about 35 fps @ 1650x1080 without any AA/AF on a GTS 250, the rest of the games run pretty much full graphics @ good frame rates on these cards. a single 9800GTX+ got me about 60-70 fps in COD4 and grid, any any source game ive played thus far has been atleast 100 fps on a single card. Playing HL2 Episode 2 with everything maxed and I get about 165fps with my 2 cards.

EDIT: if you run crysis or crysis warhead on dx9 instead of 10 you will see a huge bump in frame rates with pretty well no difference in visual quality. In fact I find it looks better because I got enough of a performance boost that I could set everything to a higher graphical setting and still get better frame rates.

GTS 250 is on for $130 right now, I havent seen a 4850 that low. plus id only go for a dual slot 4850 and they normally start higher then the single slot ones.
