+1, if you can get passed the 3ghz barrier then you wont see a bottleneck from those GPUs, even at 2.7ghz you shouldnt see a huge bottleneck, ive run the 9800GTX with an x2 5000+ @ stock and it still performed very well.

Guys his cpu wont bottleneck much. Most of this bottleneck crap is BS and far too over rated. It is a much wiser choice to get a better GPU then a better cpu for him. If you are going to upgrade the GPU then I recommend the GTS 250 and no less because going from a 9600 GT to a 9800 GT you wont notice much of a differance. The GTS 250 is an amazing price right now at NCIX and it performs very well. You can't get much better then that at that price point. CPU upgrade can wait because he would need a new mobo.

NCIX.com - Buy EVGA E-GEFORCE GTS 250 Superclocked 771MHZ 512MB 2.246GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card - 512-P3-1151-TR In Canada. there are only 29 left so you better hury if you want this card wich is an amazing deal. It is the overclocked version too. Also EVGA has the best customer service and has a step up program. So it is a great deal and I would highly recommend it.

EVGA has awesome customer service across the board and a REALLY good support community, I havent seen a new EVGA card that doesnt have a life time warranty yet? Though I dont look at anything lower then the 9800GT personally. In my oppinion you would be best served by spending your money on that card then any other upgrade right now.

ok here is the supported cpu list for the op's mobo,
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- it shows the X2 7750 series as well as other tri-core cpus.
I would suggest getting teh X2 7750 and upgrade to 4 gigs of ram and a 4830 or if you can bump the budget to a gts 250/9800gtx+/4850 and you will have no worries!

Wow hurry up and get this deal!
*FREE Stranglehold* AMD Athlon X2 7750 Black Dual Core Processor Socket AM2+ 2.7GHZ $70.00
Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB 2X1GB $$24.99 after mir
EVGA E-GEFORCE GTS 250 Superclocked 771MHZ 512MB $129.99 after mir
Total: $215 + a little shipping and gst no pst unless you live in BC. usually offsets teh shipping.

I am suspect of that psu with any decent gpu these days. You should replace that sooner rather than later. Something like this would future proof you and protect yoru investment.

If he could do that and it really does support that then that would be the best bet but only if can afford it all. If not then the GTS250 is his best option if he can only afford one item right now cause credit card debt is horrible

I also agree to wait and upgrade cpu and mobo when you can afford it. I'd rather wait to have a good a cpu and stay with a low end gpu to then upgrade to a GPU that makes a real big difference (altough i admit that a gts 250 is a good upgrade anyway). That's what i did : upgraded to the intel e8500 and kept my 8600gt before going with a HD 4870.
