Default Videocard upgrade question

I'm currently still using 2 8800 Ultras, would a GTX285 be a OK upgrade?I was also thinking about 2 GTX 275's,but not sure what to do.Would appreciate some advice.
My cpu is a q6700@3.5 and 8gb ram

I'd hold out at this point until the fall. The new ati and nvidia offerings will be out as well as games that can actually use the power. Win7 and dx11 will be out too.

Would I see a big performance increase with a GTX285?

I saw significant gains going from a 8800GTX to a GTX 260, of course you'll have significant gains going from 2 Ultras to two 285's! However as Squeetard pointed out likely be better off to wait as in the next 4 months or so a new batch of GPU's will be out n about :).......GTX 3xxx Series ???

I had no problem. I went from two X1950's in crossfire to a single 4890. Cost effective and a rather large boost to performance. I think a lot of that came from going from a 256 MB frame buffer to a 1GB one though as I game at 1920x1200.

I paid darn near the same price for a single X1950 Pro when they first came out heh. I usually don't bother upgrading more than once every 3-5 years.

gingerbee, I seriously doubt you will find a faster card with the cost effectiveness you are looking for unless you crossfire the one you have. that is the road I took with the X1950. And I plan to do the same with this 4890 when DX 11 is the new better API. It is going to drop the HD48xx's price like a rock methinks.
