My System Specs

Default 4870 1gb vs gtx260 216

I want to know which card is more performance at 1920X1200 since it's the same price.

216 as far as I have read beats out the 4870.

Yep, just barely.

Plus, has the edge on folding by a LOT!

depends. What version of gtx260 can matter on stock cooling, due to vendor binning. And now that they are binning out the GTX275 and GTX260 from the same GTX285 chip, the longer you wait to buy a card, the less it will overclock.

Same for 4870 1Gb...many version out now; different cooling and such means different clocks, nevermind differnt pcb designs. I dunno how noisy GTX260 is, but my current Sapphire 48701GB hit 100% fan in a few games, and drives me nuts. That said, both my cards clock considerably well, given that they are 1c-2c away from throttling temps

What will your board take? Will it do SLi, or Crossfire? I'm not too enthusiastic about either card's performance in the future...even though I think current 3D engines could be exploited for the next couple of years...

in this review the 4870 1gb beats the gtx 260 in almost all games @ 1920x1200 with 4xaa and 16af. For your reference,
XFX GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 $229.99 after mir
Gigabyte Radeon HD 4870 750MHZ 1GB $223.70 after mir
With the pricing so close its a personal call, driver support goes to nvidia, 5-10% fps adavntage to 4870, gtx 260 vents out of the case 4870 vents into the case.

If you live local here in the GTA check out these deals local pic up means no shipping charges and no 3-4 month waiting period for your rebate.
ASUS ENGTX260 TOP $254.00
SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4870 1G $255.00

could try an ati radeon 4890. it overclocks well... I have a 4870 clocked at 830/1100 with maxtemps of under 60 degrees celcius

edit- fanspeed is at a constant 60%, which is not even noticable in-game, but if noise bothers you a lot 50-55% is good.
note: my 4870 is a non-reference cooler... but before with a 4870 and non reference cooler (I RMA'ed it because of a problem) I was able to OC it to 825/1075 with 67 degrees at max with 55% fanspeed constant
