if you don't want to change the motherboard, get yourself an Athlon X2 7750, it's a phenom dual core at 2.7GHz or wait to next week for the 7850 at 2.8Ghz.

You wont see any bottleneck if you overclock it over 3Ghz

but isn't Athlon X2 6400 at 3.2GHz? So the bottleneck should be gone with Athlon X2 6400, since it is at 3.2GHz~~

I got a M2N-E and I was able to push my X2 3800+ to 2.6Ghz. You can definitely hit 2.4Ghz on that motherboard. Also, set the Vdimm to 1.95V. Other than that, have fun playing with the M2N-E. I know I did >.<

No. The bottleneck for high-end, single GPU cards is around the 3.2GHz C2D mark. A 3.2GHz C2D slaughters a 3.2GHz X2.

Correct. Clock for clock the intel Core 2 Duo stuff is a lot faster.... Compare a 2.4 ish GHz core 2 duo with the AMD X2 6400+ (3.2Ghz) that's roughly a fair comparison. And I wouldn't doubt that the 2.4GHz C2D still comes out on top...
And that's not even getting into power consumption and production of heat

The high end video cards getting bottle necked @ 3.2ghz on C2D are in the 2xx series, the 9800GTX would be fine on an AMD x2 @ 3ghz or higher when your running it @ 1400x900.

OH~I am confused... Which is better?
Athlon X2 6400 @3.2GHz or a Phenom Triple or Quad core?
btw i heard that the phenom CPUs cannot be used to full potentials on M2N-E board, is that true?
and is it possible that i can put a Phenom II on my M2N-E board?

Some ppl also say that Phenom I and Phenom II triple/quad cores are not very good at gaming, and faster duo cores are still better than the phenom CPUs? any suggestions?

i beg to differ on that comment. Another forum im on has one 06 benchmark of an i7 machine beefed up with a gtx 295 and it got beat out by a phenom 940 with a pair of 4870's in crossfire. In fact its Killswtch from here that did the benchmark .

Clock for clock the phenom can't touch the i7 in anything. They got the record on 3dmark with the phenom but it was at what... 6.5 GHz? With dry ice or whatever. And it was barely beating i7 in 4.5 ish GHz range...
