Default PhysX Discussion

It was in their ATI Radeon HD 4890 vs. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 article and I enjoyed reading it very much. Have a read and post your opinion on this.

I tried typing my opinion twice, but my opinions are mixed. Why? Simple. It's because my computer idles more running F@H than I do spending the time gaming. For that reason, my purchase will probably always be NVIDIA. However, if I was a more serious gamer, I'd purchase whichever card offered better bang for buck, whether it's an ATI GPU or NVIDIA GPU. I could care less whether the GPU supports PhysX or not because there's only so many good games out there.

And how long do you plan on waiting? PhysX has already been around for a few years with no real major title that shows noticeable improvement. As it stands, Mirror's Edge is the only game to do PhysX right. Nothing else does.

And well with OpenCL around the corner and Havok physics moving to it, that will take the market IMO since what kind of developer only wants to support something that only runs on NVIDIA GPUs? Then they loose all the ATI users and all the people who pirate the game

I agree with jdrom, there really is no point in waiting. people upgrade GPU like changing clothes.

By the time physX is truly optimize there would be ATI 8870s or GTX 680 that has a stand alone little device that can do the physX with the GPU

+1 for ATI

This, just because the man wants to play with PhysX, useful or not, you don't need to crucifix him. I mean that's why back when I had money, I went with 2x 4870X2 CrossFireX'ed. Not because the second card give me great bang for the buck, but simply because I could and I wanted to try it out.

Same reasoning applies to CM's currently under construction Quad Processor system, its not because he has a specific NEED for it, but simply because he can.

Its all in good fun, but most of all its not relevant to the thread. Lets get back to the topic at hand shall we?

Frankly, if PhysX is something someone wants, then until Windows 7 is out, nVidia is the only way you can go(for your main GPU).

I've never gone for bang-for-your-buck on any hardware choice. I pay for the quality and specifications I'm looking for.

There's an old saying I adhere to "I buy the expensive stuff because I can't afford the cheap shit"

Lol I read this thread, and then look at my sig with 2X GTX 285s on a P35 Crossfire board...didn't the Physix support enable better PPD in folding?
