My System Specs

Default Help me upgrade an old pc...

It's a Compaq...
2.7GHz Celeron
Motherboard is Msi Gamila/Giovani/Neon Series
512mb pc3200 DDR SDRAM
Current video card is Geforce 6200 AGP.

Is there any chance of an upgrade for this system?

Not really worth it unless you're just using it to browse the web, maybe a gig of RAM. That's about all I would do to it.

Is there a better video card that would work?

It's my girlfriends pc and she can't afford a new one.
I can't afford to buy her one either because I just bought myself one.
She wants more ram, and I said I'd try to find a video card that would be better too.

Well if she doesn't game with it then not much use, but I got a nice 7600GT for my brother for 30 bucks used.. Might be worth looking into something like that. And another gig of RAM is a must with only 512MB... plus it won't cost more than 10 bucks. I'm sure if someone has some old RAM lying around they'd even mail it to you for free

haw.. just noticed you're running AGP... not my area of expertise...

HD 3850 AGP would be the fastest card you can get for it, but probably overkill given the CPU.

I'll keep the HD 3850 in mind and watch for price drops/sales...

We actually do play some games on this computer. Mostly on lower settings, and sometimes 800x640 resolution. Fable runs pretty well... I can put most settings fairly high. Black&White 2 runs good too with medium settings...

Usually she's either surfing around, downloading, or messing around in Poser.

She'll probably end up with an HD3850 and some more RAM when I can afford it.
Should at least get things working a little better.

I, on the other hand, will be playing with my new i7 build

Oh...

it's a 2.7GHz Celeron... not MHz.
Guess I should get some sleep...

On the less expensive / more available scale for vid cards, you might want to keep your eyes open for something like a 512M X1650pro (like this one.... NCIX.com - Buy Powercolor Radeon X1650 Pro 600MHZ 512MB 660MHZ DDR2 AGP DVI VGA TV Out Video Card - X1650PRO 256/64 AGP In Canada. ). That would be 5 times the card you've got (the 6200 really was one of the low points in video card history.... :) ) and with any luck should be available on kijiji for under $50.
