Default Best gaming card for $100?

Well my dad needs a new GPU but I can't afford more than $100, (since I'm building him a new rig).

I'd like something that can play games like FC2 and the new Empire total war at 1600*1050 with medium/high settings.

Is the HIS iceQ 4670 my best bet?
Newegg.ca - HIS Hightech H467QS512P Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
Or I could extend to this!

Newegg.ca - HIS Hightech H483FN512P Radeon HD 4830 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

The 4830 is better than the 4670. If you have a bit more money, get the 9800GTX+ from NCIX.

What's your rig and your gaming resolution?

I'd go for the 4830, If not, I have an EVGA 8800gt (G92) that I might be willing to let go for a hundy Paid 119.00 for it in Aug./08. Registered with EVGA! Good Card!

I second that if you can get a GTX+ for less then $200, im not up on ATIs solutions anymore but a 9800GTX will stomp a 4830 to bits. that 8800GT is a pretty good alternative if you want to keep costs down, but from my experience anything of ATIs thats less then a 800 series isnt worth looking at for any real gaming, unless your running a low rez monitor and arent pushing for mid to high graphical settings.

oh and I just found something interesting... heres a comparison of the 8800GT G92 vs the 4830... InsideHW - ATi Radeon HD 4830 512MB vs. nVIDIA GeForce 9800GT 512MB

That should help =)

The new nvidia 250's are way better than a 9800+, and they're cheaper.
ATI 4850 is still in there with the new 250's.

If you can get something from Nvidia, before they try to rebrand it at a higher price?
GO For It! Your still better off with a 4850, unless you can find someone to sell you a 8800gt for a hundy

I heard the Nvidia 250's are being rebranded to a 2800 GTX

250s arent any better then the 9800GTXs performance wise, they have more ram but it doesnt do a damn for them when you consider their application isnt going to be in the same realm as a 285. They take less power thats about it. and 4850s are meh, run to hot unless you buy a dual slot version, and if you dont all that heat exausts into your case. That and their drivers are what sent me to the green team... 4830 < 8800GT < 4850< 9800GTX\GTX250

Best to go ati 4830,

9800gt is getting old and nvidia won't sell it for atleast $100 USD.

I tested my 9800gt on some newer games and it seems like its having trouble holding them at 1650x1050

of course it is a 9800GTX struggles on some newer games at that rez =P if you can get to an NCIX store some time their selling the xfx 4850 pretty cheap and thats dual slot =D only way I would go ati is XFX.

IMHO, you should wait for the ATI 790, and 740. 4 and 8 weeks away respectively and likely better value. I can hardly wait to see the 40nm

I am an big time ATi fan

I only decide to go nvidia to do some GPU folding and i needed a GPU upgrade

Probably going to have to jump on an gxt 260 for some decent gaming on 1680x1050

I also a big fan of tactic style war games and they eat GFX for dinner during mutiplayer
