Default EVGA 260 or EVGA 260 216

Wich one do i get the base EVGA 260 or the one with 216 processing cores.

The lower one is more in my price range

NCIX.com - Buy EVGA E-GEFORCE GTX 260 576MHZ 896MB 2GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out Video Card - 896-P3-1260-TR In Canada.

But is the $80 worth it.

NCIX.com - Buy EVGA E-GEFORCE GTX 260 Core 216 55NM Mirror 576MHZ 896MB 1.998GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I Video Card - 896-P3-1255-A1 In Canada.

Resolutions are 1680 by 1050 - just wondering after looking at the benchmarks it doesn't look like $80 of performance for the higher model.

Maybe a 4870 512mb but I like Nvidia drivers, step up program and performance is slightly better for games and programs I'll use.

Need to know soon!

It would be hard pressed to say you'd really notice the difference between the 2 while gaming, furthermore if the 1st one is within your budget that would be the one I would get. Assuming that your current card is far less powerful you won't be disappointed at all with either one you choose.

EE

If you plan on folding or heavy gaming the 216 core runs much cooler and draws less power.

Just a thought. There is more than performance. The power savings alone over the life of the card will pay the difference.

if you were me then i would pick gtx 260 core 216 or wait more...

honestly if you choose gtx 260 (core 192) then i recommend hd4870 since they are almost same in every games... gtx 260 core 216 is not...

At 1680x1050 you can max any game out with the 192 Core (lower one). And not that I have done a ton of research on this but the difference in performance I have seen is pretty small, even ay high resolutions.

For $80 and on a tight budget I'd get the 192 shader version. I have the 192 version and I do not want to upgrade as I got an absolute cherry card that is stable all day long at 837mhz core 1640mhz shader and 1215mhz memory. I am currently the #3 on 3dmark06 of all gtx 260's (23900)

if the 196 260 is in ur price range, the 4870 has equal performance for less $$,

It should be between the core 216, and the 4870 512mb imo.

If someone can find a cheaper 4870 other than the HIS at $206 from Newegg, please do.

The rebate on that card expires today and I don't want to have to get my rebate from them cause they seem iffy.

Not the HIS - no thank you - the evga is $220 with a $20MIR!

I'm ordering today within the hour.
