Default HD 4870 vs 9800 GTX+ (crysis tests)

Hey guys. I ran some tests last night with each card. The 9800 GTX+ runs an average of 31.849 FPS with all settings on HIGH at 1650x1050. (both at stock speeds)

Using the same settings the HD 4870 (512 edit) runs an average of 32.756.

Not much better in this game.
I also found that when playing with the Nvidia card everything was smooth and with the Ati I had a lot of random chops and lags. Could be due to Crysis being made for nvidia, but i don't know 100%.

I will be running 3DMark06 tonight after work, and see what I get with it.
I'm pretty excited to see how the results will compare. Also tonight I will be testing FPS in Fallout 3.

Stay tuned.

When you changed the GPUs, did you use Driver Cleaner to remove the remainder of the drivers? It's recommended that you use Driver Cleaner when switching GPU brands.

I did not. Do you think it will boost performance?

Yes. Installing ATI cards, after nV has already been installed, consistently results in the ATI card being a bit under-performing than if it was installed on a fresh OS.

Still NVIDIA is highly optimized for Crysis whereas ATI is not. Same thing goes for if you run a game that's more aimed at ATI, ATI will perform better than NVIDIA.

Personally I use C.U.D.A.A.T.S v2.21 with Crysis. Makes the game look way better and makes it run better too (funny eh?).

The best way to test between cards would be to dual boot and have one for only ATI and the other for only NVIDIA. Then you don't have to worry about cleaning drivers everytime you switch cards. However you'd have to install your games twice, unless you made a base setup without any video drivers and then cloned it.

The HD4870 should definitely be doing way better than the 9800GTX+ IMO. The 9800GTX+ is more on-par with the HD4850.

Yeah, Crysis isn't the best choice for performance comparisons. I personally favor GRID, as it's fairly demanding, but favors neither OEM. GTA4 is becoming a normal staple on my testbed, but cpu limitations skew results a bit.

Those scores are pretty low for a 4870 in Crysis. I would definitely re-install the drivers and try some other games too

Like jdrom said, that would be an accurate result if you were plugging in a 4850 to compare, however the 4870 should be getting better results!

I just got off work, and am going to use a different Hardrive for testing... That way I have clean installs on 2 different drives for both ati and nvidia. I will be testing gta4/crysis/fallout3/farcry2
