Default Can you Sli 2 different cards-

Hey everyone, I'm looking at going SLI with my Evga 9800GTX+ and an EVGA 9800 GTX

Do you think it will work ok, or do the cards have to be identical?

It will work. Or at least technically, it SHOULD work.

Question is. Would it be better to use them? Or to sell both cards, the 780i mobo, and just get a GTX280 or something for my P5Q-PRO?

Canada Computers - Video Cards > PCI-Express Cards > Powered By nVidia : BFG GeForce GTX 280 OC Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 Chipset (615Mhz) Shader Clock (1350Mhz) 1GB GDDR3 (2214Mhz) Dual Dual-Link Display PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card.

If you sell a 780i and the two cards you would probably still have money left over after picking up that GTX 280. ;)

Here is what I would do:

780i mobo: $250
9800 GTX+: $160
9800 GTX: $130
-------------------
$550

Now.....

P5Q Pro: $120
Q8300: $275
8GB OCZ: $120
-----------------
$515

So in total you would have about $1065 to work with from selling your components.

Let's see what we can do with that.

i7 920 for $348
Gigabyte GA-EX58-DS4 for $280
Patriot Viper 6GB PC3-1600 Kit for $183
GTX 280 for $379
-------------
$1190

You could probably get it for less than that when NCIX has a combo deal on the processor + a mobo.

Sweet. Thanks for putting that together skymtl! The only thing would be finding a buyer for everything :D

I checked some benchmarking charts and it appears 2 9800gtx's are close to 1 gtx 260. So I'd imagine I can see way better results with a GTX 280 or 285 is money permits.

I'd have to use strictly the funds from me selling my current build. My insurance for th year just came out of the bank and I have virtually no other money to spare.

In that case, why not sell your stuff and buy a GTX 260 216 which seems to go on sale every week? Then put the rest of the money towards....food or something. ;)

Hehe. I can live without food! But I cannot live without a sweet gpu. I think I'm going to sell the 780i and the two Evga 9800gtxs and look around for the best deal/sale

I would also ask you to seriously consider the HD 4870 512MB if you are gaming on a screen size of less than 24".
