Default 4870: Which Brand?

I just bought the Diamond 4870 1 gigger openbox for $300 + tax

I noticed the HIS 512 MB version is available on newegg for $243.
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...td.-_-14161236

I only have a 22" monitor so I doubt if the extra 512 MB would make much difference, but the extra $60 would help go towards a new cpu (x2 7750).

Can someone give me any reason why I wouldn't return the Diamond 4870 and buy this HIS version?

I am interested in feedback about brand comparison. Thanks.

Future games with high-res textures will make use of TONS of ram...GTA4 is the perfect example...increasing resolution makes for minor frame buffer usage increase, but up the details, and the used ram amount JUMPS...

Brand doesn't matter...only thing that changes, really, is the included stuff, and warranty. For comments about which brand is best, check out this thread here:

I would return it on the sole purpose that Diamonds Customer support is almost non-existant. I know HIS is better, not the best out there but much better.

That being said, you could run the card forever and not have an issue, but if you do, you better have a backup card kicking around while you wait for their RMA.

I'm sure you'll find a lot of people on this site feel the same way.

Regards,
ST

You would save a bit but you still have to pay for shipping and such.

I wouldn't get any of those. Call me a fanboy or whatever, but XFX is much better for the premium.

300 for an open box sounds like you were bent over. Theres a 1GB powercolor for 263 and a $10 MIR at newegg.

Newegg.ca - POWERCOLOR AX4870 1GBD5-PPH Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Or the 512 version HIS reference car for 206 with a $20 MIR.

Newegg.ca - HIS Hightech H487F512P Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

The cost of returning the openbox may not be worth the added expensive.

wow. you guys are awesome. RFD was not very helpful with this issue (I posted there as well). I am planning on ordering a new dvd-burner and cpu (7750 I think) so the shipping will be constant. I will do some price checking, but I'm a little skeptical of sending someone I don't know $200.
