Default Quick SLI question

I was wondering if you can SLI two cards with different memory sizes from the same manufacturer. In this case I'll have a 256MB and 512MB 8600GT SLI'd, so long as I can. Has anyone done it? Does anyone just know the answer?

Well it's a build for a friend, I'm just trying to get more performance for what he's paying. I've got an extra 8600GT 256MB, and was looking up prices for a second one when this 512MB one pops up for less than a 256MB one. I don't care if I don't get all my moneys worth, just if it works! =D

And what's with the ? Is SLI 8600GT supposed to be good or something?

For basically 20 or so dollars more you could have a 9600GT or HD4670 and either one will walk all over an 8600GT even in SLI.

^^ Very true, I can't believe I overlooked that!

In that case, 4670 or 9600GT?

I'd take the 4670 if it were me, simply because its cheap and doesn't require extra power and performance is pretty good.

What is the res you'll be gaming at?

It's on a 20" so 1680x1050 is maximum res. Why, does it matter between the 4670/9600GT? Man I've had my nose in high-end cards for too long now =D

I was just considering if you wanted to have the ability to SLI the cards because you did mention that you were before. If not, take the 4670 their about $25-$30 dollars cheaper than the 9600GT and it performs slightly better.

Check out model and prices here: HD4670 - Price Comparison - Canada's Cheapest Prices
