My System Specs

Default 9800GT 55nm VS HD4850

I know this question have been asked a lot, But which one of these would have better performance? Won't be overclocking them, and dont care much about the lifetime warranty.

Evga 9800GT 55nm $144 at ncix (from what i saw on the web the 9800gt 55nm perform just as good as the 9800GTX+)
Sapphire $170 at new egg

Both of these have $15 MIR

I am in need of a GPU for Starcraft II, will be playing on 20'LCD 1680x1050 with highest setting, with a 2ghz CPU and a $30 ECS MATX board

So which one of these would be the best performer for SCII?
Wont be going CF or SLI either

Ohh and i play massive amounts of HD videos on my PC

Thanks for the help

Avoid Sapphire. If you go ATI, go for something Visontek or HIS.

Mind you...my recent nVidia purchase for my Wifes computer has me questioning my ATI'ness...so perhaps the 9800GT would be the best one for you.

Regards,
ST

Another vote for the 9800GT 55nm.

ATI cards are too power hungry and hot running from what I have read.

This concerns me a bit, Starcraft II will likely be a pretty demanding game for better performance I'd take the 4850

I'd get the ATI 4850. It seems to be quite faster than the 8800GT in everything but folding.

4850 vote here. 9800gt is slower. 9800gtx is more comparable to the 4850.

Yeah HD4850, preferably something with dual-slot cooling to keep your temperatures and case temps down. Look at those new XFX cards

The 9800GT definitely isn't up to par with the HD4850.

aww crap , miss the deal for the XFX 4870 1gb for $260. i hesitated to click the buy button

I agree, the 4850 is better then the 9800gt 55nm in xAA games. But the 9800GT 55nm is at really good price

Are you sure about that? I have a Powercolour 4850 (Zerotherm cooling) 1GB and right now while folding temp is at 45C with fan at 65%. It idles around 30C.
