Default Ability to CF 4850 from 2 Manufacturers?

So I was wondering the other day if CF is still as flexible as it is/was when it was still fairly fresh? Like being able to pick up two different cards, and CF them so long as they were CF edition. I know that CF has had improvements over the years, but can one still say, CF a Diamond 4850 with an XFX one? or an HIS one with an ASUS one, for arguments sake?

As long as they're both 4xxx series, you can CF them. Just remember that the slowest card is the speed both will run at.

Yeah you'll be fine as long as they're the same card. Heck I cfed a Saphire and Visiontek 3850, so I know for a fact its fine.

Ah, wicked. I wanted to get an XFX card because of the dual slot cooler, faster clocks, and slightly killer looks :D and was worried it wouldn't work with the 4850 I already have. TY for clarifying!

Nope, each card can have it's own clocks.

As such my HIS card is at 690/1190 where as my Diamond card is at 675/1100.

It should be the other way around the slow card should dynamically overclock itself, I mean come on it just makes more sense that way.

My System Specs

Default mix and match

The one thing I remember from experience is that both cards have to have the same amount of RAM, frequencies will adjust itself.

They just have to be the same series, 48xx, 46xx, 38xx and etc.
Crossfire will run at the lowest speed and smallest ram
I have ran two Sapphire 3870's 512 ram and two Diamond 3850's 256 ram in QuadFire
they acted like four 3850's 256 ram
