Default Your thoughts about 260 gtx vs 4870 512?

Since the two cards are nearly the same price, I wonder which would be the one for a new mid price build? What I'm not looking for here is any of that nVidia (or ATI) sucks! type comment. Just, please, if you have one of these cards (260 gtx or 4870 512 version) would you mind sharing how you like it? In particular I am interested in the iceq4 version of the 4870. Now, I am an Nvidia guy and it would be a bit of a leap of faith for me to buy ATI again, but I'd like to hear what others think, particularly when a lot of reviews out on the net seem to be directly opposite to other reviews!

Had both, prefer the 260. the extra 484mb of ram is making a big difference in todays games.

You'll be happy with either one. They both seem to trade places depending on which came your playing. Frankly, I'd take whichever ones cheaper, but if you REALLY want to go with the ATi, try and get a 1GB model, they distance themselves nicely from the 260/280 when compared to the 512MB model.

If you ignore the 1GB 4870, then the slight edge goes to the GTX260. Just get whatever cheaper between the 2, unless you get the 1GB 4870.

Too bad they don't make the 1GB 4870 in an iceq4 though. I really like that built in cooler. A buddy has one and it runs nice an quietly too. But I have always liked the nvidia drivers as compared to ATI - not that I have kept up with recent events in ATI though. Which of the 1gb 4870s stands out - or are they pretty much the same?

If you're upgrading from your 9800GTX+, I'd say get the 4870. If you get the GTX260, get the Core 216 versions.

Note that USA had the GTX280 for $200 for a brief amount of time. We should see some price drops in Canada soon.

They're all pretty much the same, different cooler here and there, but I'd just get whichever the cheapest is.

Not sure if you seen this at fudzilla about ati price drop yet.

And i bet Nivida's gonna lower theres a bit too.

Those 4850x2 looks like really good deals although driver problems are a pain in the

xfx 260 core216 for $300 at the egg

I've owned both cards, and I can honestly say the GTX 260 is better.
