4870 fan: Catalyst auto-fan is too aggressive

Sry if this is a no brainer, but I searched all yesterday and could not seem to find an answer that didn't involve flashing the bios. I'm not sure if its even possible buuut here goes.

My catalyst control center's automatic fan speed seems to be waaay too aggressive. Its probably because it's set to a card with the reference hsf's settings.

Even at 35 degrees celsius the card fan will never drop below 63% fan speed. I was wondering there were a way to adjust the automatic fan settings myself or if there were a less aggresive automatic fan setting?

Is it possible to make the fanspeed like 35% at 35 degrees and 67% at 45 degrees and 100% at 60 degrees?

Try RivaTuner. The latest versions can automatically set the fan speed when you log in to windows. It's worked on every 4xxx-series and 3xxx-series card I've tried with it. :thumb:

ooh, k. Someone had alraedy mentioned that earlier, when I installed rivatuner it said that one of the drivers for rivatuner could not be installed because vista 64bit doesn't allow unsigned drivers to be installed. I figured if rivatuner wasn't installed correctly then it wasn't worth the risk. If you say rivatuner is the best method then I'll research a bit more on the riva tuner :D

Also,
Is it possible to make the fanspeed like 35% at 35 degrees and 67% at 45 degrees and 100% at 60 degrees?

For signed driver click Yes at the end of RivaTuner install when you're asked to install an update.
You can control fan speed whatever you like with RivaTuner. Here you have a nice guide how to do it.

thank you very much guys! RivaTuner worked great, for the 64bit driver signign issue I had to use an older, signed driver and update from there. But other than that everythings greeeeat.

at 40% fanspeed I have a 38 degree idle temp. And it's set to increase accordingly :D
