Default Nvidia drivers: error message?

So, after about 4 hours straight of playing Mass Effect last night, all of a sudden the screen goes black - then the monitor gives the disconnected code. Reboot time. On the reboot, event log says error with Nvidia driver. Hmmmm. Downloaded the latest, but the installer advised that I already had the latest, so I let it overwrite anyway. No problems since, but: anybody else having this problem? Second thing: speed fan shows the little icon of a gpu on fire after my 9800gtx+ gets to 60 degrees. Is 60 not normal for this GPU?
Thanks for any and all responses, except the ones that say "shoulda bought ATI" LOL!

Why are you still using speedfan?

GPU-Z for watching what the GPU temps and info is.

OK, I'll take that as speedfan is crap? Good to know. I still need it though to turn down the speed of the fan on my vendetta2, because that baby sounds like a B52 on takeoff! But I will download GPU-Z and try it thanks.

Use the BIOS to adjust your HSF fan speed.

And I use Rivatuner to adjust the GPU fan speed - your card probably overheated.

OK Rivatuner - I use riva uninstaller and I like that. Is 60 too hot for the 9800?

60c is fine, but you don't know how hot it became while gaming.

Yes - but right after gaming I have checked and see that it is running around 60 - 65. Perhaps because I was on so long last night the whole case heated up. It only has a couple of 120 fans. I wonder if those pci slot coolers that you see from time to time actually do much? The ones you are supposed to install under your gpu?

PCI slot fans are not efficient. Change the GPU fan speed, and it'll be fine.

They are junk.

It won't show the temps after gaming as it'll cool down fast.

If you use rivatuner it has a graph which will show temps over a period of time.

If you want extra cooling i would suggest an Antec Spot cool fan. Here is the link on Ncix but they usually go on sale for around 11-14 bucks so a good deal.

NCIX.com - Buy Antec Spot Cool Adjustable System Cooler Blue LED 3 Speed 2000-3000RPM 23-33DBA 15-22CFM - SPOT COOL In Canada.

I use two to cool my Mofsets and ram and they work just fine.
