ATI is dropping prices on the 4870 starting last Friday. 200US for the 512MB and 240US for the 1GB. MIRs and whatever would come off that.

X-bit labs - AMD Reduces Pricing of ATI Radeon HD 4870 to $199.

so I'm guessing around 300CND is the new MSRP... If you wait a few days you may see a better price , assuming our dollar doesnt fall any further.

I love my HIS 4870 512MB. A great card for the money. How ever the 1GB model is less useful, really 1GB is used for mostly higher AA settings, which are not so useful with a 24' monitor at 1920 resolution. If you have a 20' monitor then higher AA maybe useful and offer more noticable gains.

You cannot go wrong with that card at that price however, thats about what I paid for my 512MB on release.

I can't believe the price fluctuations on these cards here in Canada. Just crazy. NCIX is still carrying the 512 version at over $400. Although I can attest to it being an amazing card. I grabbed mine during the summer for $260 and am totally happy with it. I could have sold it a month ago and made money!@! wtf :)

Yea NCIX is out to lunch with the ATI 4870 pricing, maybe they are just trying to push as many Nividia cards as possible to clear some kind of a backlog?

Anyway I also got a 512mb 4870 for 250 back in August. Will definitely be good if ATI drops the prices to make the 1gb more competitive against the GTX 260 216.

Personally I find the 512 is fine on a 24inch in crossfire but maybe future games will change that so go with the 1gb if you can or the core 216.

Find the 1GB is you can for a good price. It might be worth it for those who need extra AA or higher resolutions. The prices for anything right now is really high, which sucks, considering the times were are facing now. I think it's pretty crazy how the card is actaully going to be going for $199US. That price is unbeatable.

$340 - $380 is the new price for the HD 4870 1GB. $270 - $300 is the new HD 4870 512MB price.

That's some pretty messed up math then. About 67-70 cents on the dollar makes the exchange rate work out.

I've had good experience with HIS. I do generally like ATI as well, so I am not sure if that makes my opinion Bias.
I know some of their Card Generations (2600XT series) had issues but for the most part they are solid.
Either them, or Diamond.
Again, its your call but If you can find one for a good price scoop it up!
