Cleaning video card ram chips

I used 70% isopropyl to clean the ram chips on a video card however it didn't seem to do the trick as the ramsinks I installed aren't sticking on very well.

Would a higher percentage of isopropyl be more effective?

Once you clean them off with the alcohol, use an eraser on them (Edit - GENTLY use), it helps take the greasy film off and lets them stick properly.

99% and use a microfibre cloth, similar to what you use to clean sunglasses. I used an old Oakley one I had lying about and it cleaned those chips like new.

I can't find 99% isopropyl alcohol anywhere, most drugstores only sell 70% these days.

I got mine at London Drugs. I'm not sure if they are back east or not.

I think it's over-the-counter now, but if you explain exactly what it's for (cleaning computer chips, etc.), they might give some to you.

I found some just the other day at a Shoppers Drug Mart around the corner from me, and I'm in the GTA, try them. Cheap no name generic stuff.

I know all over Winnipeg you actually have to ask the Pharmacist for the 90+% stuff. Around here for some reason most inquire what it's fore but it gave me a nice 20 minute computer conversation with a good looking one ;)

Yep, bought mine off the shelf at Wally Mart.
