Default HDCP and .mkvs

Okay I'm new to HD videos, being mostly a gamer, but I have a question.

I have 8800GT's in SLI, a Samsung T260 monitor and am using the DVI output on a Vista x64 system.

Also, I have nvidia's purevideo technology, though I don't know if Windows Media Player uses it but I know PowerDVD8 does

My questions are..

1) do .MKV files have that HDCP protection in it such that I Need to use a HDCP monitor to view it in true 720p?

2) How can I tell if I'm getting true 720p non-HDCP crippled content?

Thanks in advance

MKV files definitely don't have any copy protection of sorts since they don't come from legitimate sources as far as I know...

And don't worry, the t260 is HDCP.

Does power dvd8 play mkv files?

I think you need to get VLC or Zoomplayer.
