Default 9600GT 512MB @ 1680x1050

Will a 9600GT 512MB 650MHz/1.8GHz be able to handle playing games like Far Cry 2, COD4, Assassian's Creed and Gears of War 2 on high settings?

I don't think so. for example, the 8800gt dont do that, and trust me, I did some test wht my old evga 8800 gt superclock and nop, max 1400*900, It was a nightmare with Stalker clear sky at 1680*1050...ouch! :(! Don't forget, the 8800 gt is better that the 9600 gt! At this resolution, it is better to choose a ati 4850 ot a gtx 260 minimum!

The 9600 will perform pretty well on COD4 with high settings and no AA, but I see it taking a big hit on FC2, AC and GW2 at that resolution with high settings.

Yep as mentioned...260 Core 216 minimum, or the noted ATI solution.

I've got an 8800gts640MB and 9800gtx+ they both suck wind on crysis but cod4 is fine with x4aa/x8af 1680x1050. U'r 9600gt should do ok in cod4, FC2 most likly not, the gtx260 216 is u'r best bet or the 4870 for the res u want. A side note nv cp monitor scaling does a better job than my monitor scaling down to 1440x900 .

It's not out for PC yet lol.

I was thinking I'd be willing to play games at 1280x1024 since buying a new video card really isn't in the budget right now.

I still need to get a motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU and HSF. My budget is $500.00
