Default back agian, $200 card - 4850 or 8800 Ultra?

yep. back agian with more questions :). I'm looking for a 200 dollar card this time. I wanna know which would be better.

XFX 8800 Ultra - $187
HIS 4850 - 221.73 :/ can't find decent pricematch

I'll be playing at 1680x1050 on a 21.6 inch monitor. which one would be best? I'm leaning towards the 8800 Ultra since it's a bit cheaper and.. it looks freaking sexy.

discontinued or not, ultra's kicked ass, and they still kick ass over the 4850

palit + forum promo code + arctic accelero vga cooler 160?? or 190 if you don't do MIR's. Others maybe able to speak to any difference over clocking a 4850 makes.

I'm curious as to the manufacturor choice on your first spec. Does HIS have a better reputation or a better clocked card or something?

it is up to you but I would get the 4850 because it should be faster with AA and use a whole lot less power. I also believe the 4850 is faster then the ultra by a bit but the ultra is cheaper.

I'd say HD4850 as I have one and it works great with games @ 1680x1050.

The Ultra is better suited towards higher resolutions I believe. And yes, it was discontinued a long time ago, all G80-core cards were. You could pickup a 9800GTX+ and be on-par, if not faster than the ultra for roughly $200 as well.

thats the only benchmark where the 4850 loses to any 8800 card, a synthetic one too. My 4850 was slower than my overclocked 8800 in 3dmark but killed it in every other benchmark i ran.

get the 4850

I just ordered an Ultra at the sale price but my circumstances are different because I already have one and will SLI this one. So for me the Ultra is a better option.

4850 makes the 8800Ultra look stupid when you kick in AA.

Your probably looking at the HIS with the iceQ cooler that's why the price is so much. I like that card because the cooler exhaust the hot air from your case, but the price is a little high. I got the Palit sonic from Canada Computers for $203.99, $199.99 if you go in person and pay cash and a $20.00 mail in rebate which gets you down to $174.99.

The Sonic is overclocked just like the HIS more on the core less on the memory, but the cooler exhaust most of the air in to the case (some gets out the back of the card were they have slots). Temps are really good idle 44C and load 60C 50% fan which I can't hear, I think I'll try some king of mod to block of the coolers exhaust in to the case and have it go all out the back.
