Default Help picking a GPU

CPU: E8400
Mobo: EVGA 750i
RAM: G.Skill 2x2GB
PSUL Corsair 650W

as for the gpu, wanna keep it under 300. these are the gpu I've peeked at so far. any help appreciated.

XFX 9800GTX Black Edition w/ CoD4 - $199.62
XFX GeForce 9800GTX+ - $208.33
EVGA E-GEFORCE 9800GTX+ SC - $211.36
XFX GEFORCE GTX 260 - 301.04
Now if i can keep the gpu cost under 200, I can probably buy another to sli..but only if it would out preform a GTX 260..why waste so much money when I can get better preformace for less right?

Its a "no brainer"...GTX 260 (216), if you don't mnd spending a shade more and keeping to a "Single Card Solution"! I had this Card and it was awesome, ran very cool and OC'd like hell! But I find the performance of my GTX 280 better for my new 24" monitor.
PS Your gonna have a few folks get "on you" for your choice in MOBO issues with nForce Chipsets (a lot of "I've heard" comments and " my old 680i was f___", I can vouch for the newer nForce Chipsets as being very good, as can a whole army of other folks (check out Evga Forum), so don't sweat it, they are a very good choice and will compliment your GPU.
If you go wth the GTX 260 (216) and the 750i Board, ditch that PSU and get yourself a good quality 750W PSU, that way you'll be set if you ever decide to go GTX 260 (216) SLI...my 2 cents worth....

I see. yeah I heard a lot of negative stuff about these mobos. I just hope I don't receive a bad one. as for the gpu, does the brand matter? people seem to recommend EVGA but I'm kinda leaning towards the XFX since I like the colour scheme plus it's a little bit cheaper.

This exactly what I mean....I've asked for "detailed references with no hard facts, other Enab saying his older 680i went cput! How old?.....I spend equal time on the Evga Forums Web Site and thier are plenty of folks having great OC'ing results with these Chipsets and of course their are folks having issues...hell...I'd bet their are frolks having issues with their Intel Chipsets!
For example.....many posters here swear by their ATI Radeon Cards, yet read some of the Threads..."Gaming crashes in Warhammer"...Poor Catalyst Drivers"...."High Temps"...."Loud Fans"...yada yada yada
Truth is...my Rig (in my Sig), has never so much as hiccuped since I built it...I don't count the odd BSOD as I was achieving my stable OC on my E8400.....its expected when tweaking!
As for your quesion re: Brand of GU....I have been going with Evga for the past few years as they:
1. Provide excellent support!!
2. Step-up Program (and yes, I have taken advantage of it and will continue to do so).
3. Lifetime Warranty (even when OC'ing)

Hope this helps!

You can't crossfire on a SLI board, so that eliminates possibility of xfire later on. There is a chart that compares the 260, 280, 4870 and 4870x2 but i can't find it right now.. i'll keep looking.

You can actually find it through our price comparison engine, at $ 279.00 at Direct Canada.com

This card is actually pretty wicked for that price!

+1 For the 9800 GX2

I can attest to being able to run crysis at very high settings @ 1600 x 1050 (while in sli mode, no AA) and a nice bonus is having two nvidia GPUs to fold with :D

+2 for the 9800GX2

But then, you can get a GTX 280 from DC for like.. $400. How much performance difference is it from 9800GX2 to GTX280?
