HIS ICEQ 4 4850 temps too high?

Hi, just got it installed, idle temps seem to be around 53-55, load temps around 65-70.

All th review put it more at 45 idle and 55 load.

This is in a VERY well ventilated antec 900 in a cool basement (my e6750 idles at 22* for example)

should I RMA it? I know these temps are ok, but I paid for lower I thought...?

Mine only went to 68-9degrees on load after I OC'd it to 700/1125 or so. If you use the latest CCC it can now adjust the fan speed. Up it till you notice the noise difference then back off a touch and see what temps you get. This way it's still quiet but cooler temps.

I use an Antec 1200 and my room is fairly cool as well (20-22 degrees).

I don't think RMA'ing it would do anything. You could do as the previous post says and increase your fan speed. You can do this without using the latest leaked beta drivers by using RivaTuner or modifying your CCC profile.

Another thought, you could remove the heatsink and replace the thermal paste with MX-2 or similar. Might give you a few more degrees.

how do I mod the ccc profile?

i have 8.9, no fan speed stuff...

Also, in rivatuner, it seems to cycle between 650mhz and 500, but REALLY often, up down up down up down, looks like a really tight sawtooth waveform, back and forth every 1-2 seconds.

I know this card is supposed to scale down when not loaded but like this??

Sounds weird to me.

My rig with that card in it is in at least 20 pieces right now but I hope to have it together by tomorrow. I only ran it a day or 2 before taking it appart. If I get it together tomorrrow I'll post it's behaviour in RiverTuner.

I do remember that after a couple hours of Crysis Warhead with all settings on gamer, OCed to 690/1125 the highest temp I saw was 68 degrees.

Are you running something that's always using 3D graphics? It should stay at 500MHz if your just sitting on your desktop and what not.

My HD4850 stays at 500/750 on Vista at the desktop/MSN/Firefox etc. I also have the Arctic Cooling TwinTurbo which gives me 42C idle (20C ambient) in my Antec 900. I'm also running 700/1125 as my clocks.

I'd like to see a picture of your 900 if possible. Perhaps you just have bad cable management and thus there isn't much air getting to the GPU? Also do you have a side fan?

Here is a pic with the x1950 and my old CPU cooler, its now a TRUE with 2x noctua p12's on it.

Sorry, but no way is in an airflow issue, nothing under it generating any heat, and the inlet fan on the bottom essentially blows right into the card. Like I said that x1950 was at 30 TOPS idle and 50 TOPS load, most of the time it was 5-10 degrees less than that.

That is running XP and rivatuner only, 500/650 cycles are every 2 seconds, plus a min of 54*idle, and it takes about 30min of idling to get there after loading it...
