Default 4800-series Fan Control Article from [H]ardocp

I gotta give the [H]ard guys some credit, the how-to they posted today on how to take control of your 4800-series cards fan works really really well.

Before the how-to - 4870X2 (Temperatures taken from the second core = the hotter one):
Idle = 55-60 Degrees
Load = 85 Degress

After the how-to - 4870X2:
Idle = 42 Degrees (Fan set manually to 30%)
Load = 55-60 Degrees (Fan set manually to 45% - Noticably louder than it was with the default fan speed but not that bad)

I must say I'm impressed, I'd recommend anyone with a 4800-series card to try the steps outlined in the [H]ard article and post back their results!

No offence but modding the fan profile has been around for months and now the latest RivaTuner is out. A modded BIOS is the easiest and surest way to go.

Thanks CMetaphor. I haven't gotten my 4870 yet but I appreciate your link. I've read a few posts elsewhere about editing profiles and alternately the bios method but that video gave me a nice preview of how the Control center for ATI cards look and ease of use. A Video is worth a thousand words. Thanks

Yeah it was helpful to see a step by step it reminded me to use the hotkeys. I set 3 hotkey profiles which works nice but I still want something a little smarter. Has anyone tried a bios mod or Rivatuner....... I dont think there was any need for smack talk this is a handy link to an helpful how to. Well done
