Default Quad SLI core frequency

(rig in sig)

While using my new 9800 gx2 cards for folding i noticed that my gpu core 1 was consistantly half the speed of the other 3. (FYI i consider the cores 0,1,2,3 so core 1 is the secondary core on the primary card)

i checked out the core speed with riva tuner and noticed that all my cores were 600mhz except for core 1 wich was only 400mhz. i tried overclocking the core only to find out that the option isnt available for that core, though it IS available for the other 3 cores.

when i fired up GPUZ, the information for core 1 is "0" no information, though the information is available for all other cores.

i installed ntune and got bsod when i tried to run it, so i got rid of it... one problem at a time...

so i figured i had a bum card, fortunatly i have 2, so i have some options...

i traded the cards pcix slots, checked again, still the same thing on core #1. i figure if its a bum card it should be core #4.

tried with just a single card, one, then the other, turns out that both cores work perfectly on both cards.

to tell you the truth, i havnt done alot of gaming with these cards untill last night, i tried playing crysis on very high at 3840 x 1024 and the game was completely unplayable, i dropped it to low, and the game was still unplayable. thats when i decided i better see what the deal was with these cards... i can ignore a few ppd when folding, but not when playing games....

when i had just a single card in, i tried crysis again and was able to play very high at 3840 x 1024 so theres gotta be something going on with the quad part.

i've run a couple different drivers on here while trying to get the gpu2 folding client running and no other driver seemed to help with the wierd core speed thing, maby its normal? i cant find anything on the internet at all, wich isnt surprising because quad sli isnt exactly mainstream yet

any insite guys? advice?

i just did a driversweeper / install of the beta now, its solved the missing gpu problem, but now gameing is worse than ever and folding has taken a major hit... i'm going to have to roll back the driver i think. i was using the 177.84 drivers before.

If you did a driversweeper clean, don't forget to re-install the PhysX drivers - that's probably where your F@H it came from. I'm using the latest drivers (177.92s) on both my 280s and saw no difference in folding.
