Using Speakers and Headset at same time

I am wondering if there is a way to use speakers for lets say music and use headset for gaming (Ventrillo stuff like that ) do i need 2 soundcards or is there a way to program the sound to go 2 different places

I have a HP Pavilion Media Center m8530f PC

A splitter cable works too.

edit:
NCIX.com - Buy Audio Y-CABLE 1 Male to 2 Female 3.5MM 6FT - AU-Y-M-6Ft In Canada.

If you get a Turtle Beach head set (5.1) it comes with all the splitters.
