Default New Build - Problem

Hello,

I've just finished building and am having some startup problems. When I hit the power switch everything flicks on for half a second then shuts off and you can't power up again unless you switch on/off the PSU. I narrowed it down to something to do with the video card possibly because when I disconnect the video card from the PSU everything powers on perfectly. I tried switching the video card to the 3 different pci-e slots and same difference.

I have no idea why it would not be working with the video card plugged into the PSU. Build is as follows:

Case: Antec 900
Mobo: ASUS P5Q Deluxe
CPU: Intel Q9450
Ram: Mushkin XP PC-8500
Video Card: Visiontek HD 4870 X2
PSU: Silverstone Strider 850W Modular
HD: Western Digital 640GB
OD: Samsung S203FN
Heatsink: OCZ Vendetta 2

I'm narrowing it down to most likely a psu problem but I have trouble believing it's a psu problem though...even when I unplug everything except the mobo and the video card, it still has the same problem. Everything I have read hasn't indicated a need for more than 850w on this kind of machine, especially with only one hard drive and one optical drive. Does this system need a 1200w psu or something? Both the 8-pin and 6-pin cables are plugged in for auxilary power to the video card so I have no idea what could be going on here.

Any help from the experts would be greatly appreciated!

850 is more then fine for your rig. But yes it does sound like a PSU problem to me too. If you have another video card it would be nice to try... Could be an issue with that too.

Try keeping the case open and on its side when you start it up, with the video card NOT screwed into the slot. I had an issue when I tried to install my card, and it was because it wasn't aligned well.

Also does the PSU have other 8-pin and 6-pin cables? If so try those.
