Does the computer power up when you turn it on? Do you hear the machine working?

yes everything looks like it's powering up, making it even more frustrating:
  • All the fans turn on.
  • The blue LED on the video card lights up
  • The green LED on the board turns on.
  • The green light in front of the dvd writer lights up, I can even open it
  • The screen status changes from "no signal" to "energy saving mode". BTW, I checked my DVI to VGA adapter, it works in another computer. The VGA cable, I can't replace it, it's stuck in the screen housing.
  • I sense vibration and heating in both hard drives.
  • The chipset heatsink seems to be heating up but it may be my imagination.
there must be something in the MB start up check list that's stopping it from posting but it remains a mystery.

Yesterday, while checking every connection with the MB's manual, I found that the speaker wire was not connected on the MB leads (orange part of the panel section if I remember right). I guess it's not my problem since I don't think it was ever connected and the computer was working well before. However, I may hear interesting diagnostic bleeps if I connect it ...

If you hook up the speaker and hear nothing when you turn it on your board is dead or shorted.
