Well have the mushkin on memtest but I have no idea why. Since I couldn't get the crucial to crash I guess the only way is to reinstall windwoes and pray. In the meantime, try and get an rma from newegg.-

But interestingly, since I rebooted the old machine with the 2 gig... my server doesn't show up. Am I having fun yet? ...sigh...

best just to ignore that comment. You didn't do anything wrong...it's a symptom of those sticks to jsut up and die "for no reason"...there IS a reason, of course, but not one openly discussed.

SPD is like bios for ramsticks. I took this SPD from lower-binned 667mhz sticks(approved by crucial for x38.x48 when 800 and 1066mhz sticks were not), and put it on my 1066 sticks that would error @ any speed, and it made them stable.

Ergo, the problem was in the SPD.

The SPD on the first runs of single-sided 8FE5's was not compatible with X38/X48 due to mis-matched timings in BIOS and SPD...timings that are not user-selectable. There's nothing you can do to change this unless you go out of your way to do it, and I do not suggest it to anyone as you can make the ram in-operable if the SPD you flash is not the right one for your sticks. I suggest just RMA'ing the sticks direct to Crucial...they have a lifetime warranty, so take advantage of that...Crucial RMA service is pretty good...some of the best, IMHO.

I used to work @ BCOM...and yeah, they are bad alright. I won't give details other than to say that the non-white staff there are extremely racist...they did not consider that I understand chinese becuase my wife is chinese, even after some of them saw me reading chinese mags in the lunch room. I have a strong work ethic too, and this got some of the other staff in there some flak..., os I quite without fanfare. Should have filed a human rights claim though...still could, but there's no point. I only went there ot make some extra christmas cash anyway.
