| Some boards are picky about RAM - I had this problem a few years ago with an old motherbaord - RAM errors, CRC errors on files on disc, blue screen, GPFs, kernel32.dll, protection fault, blue screens at loading, you name it - those are classic symptoms of memory problems ! the same ram modules worked great on another system, and those were Micron based too! So it's a good thing to check your motherboard's QVL for tested and approved RAM, at least you are certain that specific models were TESTED - the list is sometimes small and it doesn't mean that you can ONLY use those, but if you want to play it safe...

Computer store people ? LOL ! Don't count on them testing shit - not to offend any computer store workers, but some of the times there are complete MORONS working there - they boot your MB with memory and if POST says "OK" it means RAM is ok LOL, yeah, that bad. So your best test is doing it yourself, a few rounds of memtest86, and stress testing applications - that should help root out problems from the start, now with sudden failure in the long run, that is something you can't predict, so it's you and your luck basically ;)

i'll second the whacked out crucial mem. I had 4 sticks of double sided balistix, 2 of which overclocked awsome for months, then one day they wouldnt run properly anymore, then a few days later they ALL quit at the same time, i cant run them in any of my motherboards, not even one at a time. they'll boot, but fail windows boot. i cant believe they could all quit at the same time, and i'm sure some will blame the OC, but 2 of the sticks were barly ever overclocked, and at the time of failure they wernt overclocked at all. I've actually talked to a few people around edmonton that have had 4 sticks of crucial go bad at the same time on them too, i have to wonder if there are other circumstanses to this problem. one fella told me that the p35 chipsets were causing the problem, but i dont think so becuase though 2 of the sticks were running on a p35 for a long time, 2 of them have never seen a p35, and they quit while running on a 780i... so i dunno. but theres definatly something funky with crucial...

It's the SPD. I had 333mhz sticks, absolutely no issues...all the way up and above 1066mhz...then also still have 1066 set, it had major issues until I flashed SPD from 333mhz sticks, no boot, unstable, etc, even @ 800mhz. Funny then, after mentioning this to someone, about 3 weeks later Micron has a new revision of sticks. And lo' and behold, most of the issues with certain chipsets are gone... Anway, if you call up Micron, they'll gladly swap 'em out for some sticks that WILL WORK with your board...the new revision, of course. Usually takes a week to get new sticks back(5 business days) if you send it to them by 2-day air... |

Ah that's crappy . You guys obviously don't have a good computer store. That's too bad. I goto Memory Express Calgary.I've been a customer of thiers for many years. If I go in with a defective product , most of the time they just hand me a new one.If testing is required , half the time it's 'while-you-wait'.....aka "gimmie 5 mins".

![]() Not in Edmonton it isn't. You only get the service if you pay for it, most times like 10% for "IPR", or Instant Product Replacement. The edmonton staff lying to make sales(they work commision) doesn't help either...I'll stick with NCIX. I mean, I don't bring stuff back unless it doesn't work. 95% of the time they've tried to give me back the same product "oh we tested it, and it works fine", after calling me a couple of days later. Then I tell them how to duplicate the problem...and get my new product. Nevermind waiting 4 weeks for Micron RMA through them, "oh we haven't recieved and RMA number yet"...too kthe product back on monday from them, Micron had me new sticks by friday the same week ![]() ![]() MemX sucks, if you know what's what. from me, sry.

To the OP; I've had so many Gigabyte boards (either personally or for customers) it's a joke. I'm talking 6 personally, and over a dozen for customers. Not one ever died yet - and I've pushed them to the limit, every single time. including the same board you have (the X48-DQ6 - sig). As for your problem, I concur that the Crucials are probably dead. And if you wish to replace them, the Mushkin Redlines and Ascent lines work great with that board, right out of the box.
