Default 4870x2 and GA-EP45-DS3R

Hi I'm having problems getting my computer to boot up with a 4870x2 and the ga-ep45-ds3r motherboard. I have tested the pcie-slots on this mobo with an older x1900 and also tested the 4870x2 and psu with another computer on a different motherboard and it works fine. I've connected both 6 and 8pins. Has any1 else had success with this card and mobo?

Oh no....

Does the system boot without a problem with it installed and all you are missing is a video signal?

The machine boots up to the first bios page, and registers the drives and memory tests pass and then it changes to the next screen but then fails there and reboots. I get stuck on a reboot loop like that.

So there is video signal because it shows the first bios page :P.

Are any of the card's diagnostic LEDs illuminated?

I have a feeling it is a power supply issue. While the Modu82+ is a very good unit, the rails may not be optimally set up for running such a high-powered card. We have to remember that the HD4870X2 goes into full 3D mode before any drivers are installed and to be honest with you, it sounds like you may be tripping the OCP. But then again, the automatic reboot has me scratching my head.

I would recommend you set your system to stock values and see if it will boot up then.

I tested the PSU and Card together on a A8R32 MVP S939 mobo with an AMD 3800+ X2 cpu and it went through windows vista installation fine with several successful boot ups, I guess i can try it some more and try games out, on the setup. I have a feeling it is a bios settings, Gigabyte had to issue a new bios for 4850 and 4870 when they launched.. I was hoping it would work for 4870x2 but I guess they didn't accommodate for that.

I have yet to get any responses from people that have the same card and motherboard though :S

Seems like this is the third mobo manufacturer who has problems with the X2 then. So far DFI has MAJOR problems, there seems to be rumblings of issues with ABIT boards and now Gigabyte. When you get home, let us know if there are any LEDs illuminated on the back of the card since it may not be a problem with the mobo.

Don't forget to add foxconn to that list...it's a bios issue with the new PLX chip, IMHO. I actually think an older bios for PCI-E 2.0 boards may work...as alot of boards that had PCI-E 1.1 instead of PCI-E1.1a had similar issue with 3870x2...

It must be something on these boards that are causing this since ASUS boards have no issues nor does an MSI P45 board I tried yesterday.
