Default hating life - rampage formula det dram no post

i just got a rampage formula to replace my broken 680i. i put all the stuff from my old rig (in sig) on it and it wont even let me into bios. the lcd poster says 'det dram' even if there is no ram installed. nothing comes up on my monitor no matter what. everything is plugged in properly, the fans/lights come on, the hard drive sounds like its kicking over...

i googled it and followed this advice already

-remove sata dvd drive - didnt help
-dont use pwr_fan plug for anything - wasnt using it
-swapping ram (none, 1 and 2 sticks in all combos of slots) - nothing
-update bios - cant even get to it
-manually set your ram voltage - cant get to it
-try booting off slower/lower voltage ram - dont have any to try

anyone have any ideas?

You have to find a way to test that board with slower ram. I too did some googling and found many, many cases of ram problems with that board from a lot of manufacturers.

shouldnt it get me into bios, or at least show something on my screen if i try to boot without ram installed? for the time being the only ram i can think of that i have any access to at all is the same specs as mine but a different manufacturer...

i was working on about 1.5 hours of sleep this morn when it came in. i had a bit of nap time, and im gonna have another crack at it now. (thank the gods my old p4 is working back here lol)

thanks

If the ram has timings or voltage settings that are too much to for the board to boot then nothing will happen.

Unreasonable as it may sound, sometimes simply using a different manufacturers ram works. Manufactured to slightly different tolerances, different configuration etc.

Well maybe you should consider tearing it all down and double checking everything. Maybe you made a mistake with such little sleep...

If you don't have any ram in, it should beep alot, if you have a mobo or case speaker.

Unfortunately no, if you boot without RAM in the motherboard, it will just keep giving those long continuous beeps.

I'm guessing you did try booting with 1 stick of RAM only. The only other option you possible have is booting with a different type/manufacturer of RAM.

i was thinking i would at the very least see my video bios info or a 'no memory installed' style warning on my screen. i have no pc speaker and nothing is coming from the onboard sound (my asus p4 mobo would actually say the error over the onboard sound in a really creepy voice).

im trying to borrow a stick off a friend, but hes pretty busy this weekend, so im not sure if ill be able to. in the mean time im thinking about ordering this to try out. anyone have any input on that before i do it?

thanks
