Thanks for all the reply's guys!

I'll try to give as many details as I can.

Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Mobo - XFX Nforce 780I

RAM- OCZ NVIDIA SLI Ready XTC DDR2 PC2-6400 2GB

Harddrive - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 3.5IN 500GB SATA2 8.5MS 7200RPM 32MB Cache NCQ Hard Drive

Video Card - XFX GeForce 8800GTS Alpha Dog Edition

OS - Windows XP Pro SP3

All drivers are updated and I defrag quite often.

Here is a picture of my performance tab along with the process explorer program that enaberif recommended. Was taken right after I received tons of stutter while playing The Witcher.

Looking at that screen shot there appears to be nothing wrong.

Does this happen in all games or just witcher?

FYI: Defrag only needs to happen MAYBE once every 6 months.

NOTE: 2 cores are only being used because very little on the market benefits from quad cores.

Yes this happens with most games. Depending on how many textures that need to load, it can be a slight drop of frames very quickly causing a slight stutter or a complete freeze and then frames shoot back up. The worst I have seen it is with Crysis. Pretty much whenever I pan the camera I get a stutter with that game.

Have you done a system check?

Using something like Prime 95 and doing a blend and small fft test?

Those Prime95 tests need to run for a bare minimum of an hour, and preferably somewhere between 6 and 12 hours. Out of curiosity, do you experience any slow downs using other applications that are not games or extensively visual in nature? Because if it is only a problem loading textures than the error is likely the fault of the GPU. I'm also kind of curious, what games and settings are trying to run? Because if you have anti asailing and antroscopic filtering jacked way up along with things like shadows, high res textures, and all that stuff that is eating your GPU's RAM, than your GPU will require paging to load the textures.

It happens on a range of games, from World of Warcraft to Titan Quest to Oblivion. And happens regardless of graphic options, very low or very high.

I was thinking maybe you have something in the background
sucking resources, but you only have 16 processes and 266 threads going, not a lot, at least compared to my 74 and 661 threads.
Changed anything recently? Or is it a fresh build?

You might want to go to the Control panel->Administrative Tools->Performance
and use the System Monitor. Right click on the bottom table and you
can add all kinds of graphs, available bytes, page usage, etc.
Its much more extensive than the task bar. It might help to see what’s going on.
(dual monitor really helps for testing games here)

I just built the computer a few months ago and as far as I can remember I've always had this problem. All new parts except for a Soundblaster Live! 24 bit Card from my old computer. I completely reformatted once and It didn't fix the problem.

Any tips for those graphs? I'm totally lost going through all the options.
