Ok, that is it. Sorry it took so many posts.

One more piece of info about those codes. On some of the newer machines you will see codes that start with 6. You may have noticed that there are no codes starting with 6 in this list. To decode these errors, remove the "6X" and add "00" to the end of the last two "XX" in the first subset and you will have the correct code.
Example: 6534:1001 would be 3400:1001

Hope this proves helpful to someone at some time.

That is a fairly useful page, the only problem with it, like the one I linked to in another post is that they are system specific. Well sort of, that one you gave is for the GX270 and does apply to pretty much all of the Optiplex brand desktops from that time. Mainly GX260, 270, & 280. Some of the codes changed with the newer models that came right after those.

Unfortunately I could not find a all in one resource for the Dell LED or beep codes. Well I could make one up, but I just don't think that I will ever get to it.

You should add them to the sysadmin wiki, that would be a good place to gather them.

Apparently i wasn't allowed to make a link, cause it was my first post. Silly. I was kinda tempted to go to another thread and just post something stupid just to be able to, but i don't wanna be rude or anything. Stupid rule.

Edit: Hah! Apparently i could edit it. Even "stupider" rule. :)

How would I fix my computer if it gave me one of these error codes (specifically error code 5300:031E)?
Thanks

Well this is a little late but hey whatever.

For that error, 5300:031E, it usually means that you failed to respond to a question that it asked during a graphical portion of testing, usually something like did you see the pattern (or something similar). Now if you didn't respond then you will get such error. It could be that you never saw the question and therefore couldn't answer, which would mean that you didn't have any video. Or you answered in the negative for the question which would indicate to the diagnostics that the test failed and voila, error code generated.

As for fixing it it is hard to say without a description of the problem. But if it is video related the obvious comes in like trying known good parts, monitor, cable, video card, etc. At one point you will find the cause.

If you are still around I hope that helps a bit.

Does anybody knows what SMI.MDM stands for;I ran the Hardware Diagnostic utility in a Dell Dimension 2400 and the utility hangs on its initial hardware check-up looking for, again, SMI.MDM..
there's not an err message at all.It just hangs there looking and loking for it with the computer OS (XP) never starting.

Exclamation Dell Hardware Diagnostic will freeze:XP won't boot.

I ran Hardware Diagnostics on a XP Dimension 2400 from Dell. The only thing is that the utility hangs for ever looking for a SMI.MDM and the OS (XP) never boots.

It may be a bit late but while researching a way to clear HD0 motherboard diag code 2000-0146 HD0 Status 79 error - a hard disk self test reported an error (or something like that) for a new drive from Dell which failed once in diag partition full HD diags in that machine but did not fail in another machine or when returned to the original machine (Dell E6410s) but the 2000-0146 goes with the hard drive to another machine I found the following:

Beep Codes and PSA Diagnostic Chart

Dell Community

I hope it helps y'all.

But still, does anyone know how to clear the HD diag code? Dell said to clear logs in bootup F2 BIOS area and then load defaults, but there is no "clear" button for that log and loading defaults the log remains there. It's got to force the HD to clear its log.
