Default No DVI with cf 4870

Cant seem to get DVI to work with the 4870's in crossfire or as single cards. When I added the 2nd card last the screen went black on the 2nd boot.

After a CMOS reset it worked, but I was using an older monitor with a VGA adaptor.

My newer monitor Vx2035wm DVI connection wont work at all-just a black screen- so I am using the VGA cable and adaptor.

I have set the bios to boot from PCI or PCI express.

CCC Monitor properties seems to think the monitor has a maximum refresh of 70hz and res of 1920 x 1200. Ive tried to tell it in monitor attributes that its 1680x1050 60hz, but it still recognizes it as above. Its set in the display as 1680x1050 so thats fine.

The weird thing is happened only after adding the visiontech card and now I cant reverse the problem with 1 card at a time or both. I suspect that this is something to do with the EDID option in monitor properties. The monitor is 3 years old now and im using 8.6 and was going to install 8.7.

Any idea why the DVI isnt working? It works fine with my 7950GT

cheers,

Sounds to me like the dvi is outputting 70hz refresh rate. Try and force it to 60hz. Install the drivers for you monitor too.

Thanks.

I installed the monitor drivers but it didnt help. It looks like its the ATI drivers as said outputting a 70mhz refresh rate.

I'll see if I can force it and will try a fresh install with 8.7.

un-install monitor driver, maybe vga drivers as well. if you can boot into windows without VGA drivers, see if windows installs default monitor driver, and leave it, then install VGA driver.

Also, some bios will boot from second vga card first, so make sure to try ports on the other card as well.
