Possibly a problem with the pci express slot actually not getting enough juice due to faulty design of the board? My guess to really test the problem is to get a higher powered card that would require external power connections. If the system works fine with an external power source being fed to it that would validate my suggestion.

Try blowing at the PCIE slot. My 9600GT wouldn't work on my 720BE system unless i blew on the PCIE slot and the card. I suspect faulty connectors.

Thanks, however the PCIe slot works fine with my 2600 XT card which according to the following website has roughly the same power requirements:

Radeon X2600 XT - 25A and a 400W PSU minimum

A8N-VM configuration PCIe video card BIOS ATI Radeon HD5570
-------------------------------------------------------------

I've been running a GeForce 6600 on this motherboard for a couple years with no problem. Today I upgrade to a Radeon HD5570 and it bombs out on video just as everyone has described. Card fan is running, system power is on, but no Digital or Analog signal from any video port when the card is plugged in.

Old GeForce works fine.
Onboard without video card works fine.
Updated the BIOS (latest Beta version March 2006 sweet christ)
Reset defaults, played with Bios settings, exercise in futility

Final verdict: New wine in old wineskin, the PCIe slot must be flaky as fack. I needed an excuse to build a new rig anyway, and now I hate ASUS.
