Default Aspect Ratio Problem despite new ATI drivers

I was pleased to see that aspect ratio scaling has been added to the ATI control panel but unfortunately 4:3 ratio games still stretch on my widescreen monitor even with 'Maintain aspect ratio' selected. One test I have done is change my desktop resolution to 1280x1024 and this scales properly with black bars but when I load the game, it stretches. I have an ATI X1950 Pro AGP for the record.

Thanks if you can help

try setting the monitors default resolution in the ingame resolution option. or try playing in windowed mode and seeing if it stretches or adjusts.

Ya most 4:3 games can be modded to output widescreen.... you must be playing a pretty rare game if there is no way for 16:9 res.
