I just installed my sata Hard Drive, Sata dvd burner and a IDE DVD player on my older DFI Lanparty board. everything worked except the SATA Dvd burner, I could install an os right now from the IDE dvd drive. How do you tell if the dvd burner is dead? it powers up and is found by the bios you can load cd's into it but windows 98 startup disk refuses to recognize it as a drive. So I should just return this PC then? is there a problem with this motherboard? I've built every pc I've ever owned and never had these problems before. How could both drives be recognized in bios but not installable by win 98?

Are you sure you've got a bootable win98 disk? Have you tried a bootable linux distro to see if that works? Does the Win98 disk work with any other computer?

I believe that Win98 does not have inbedded drivers for USB and SATA... but why Win98? You'd be better off with any Linux flavor.

The 98 startup disk is fine, I've tried a win Me startup disk and got the same results. My sata hard drive seems to works just fine so why doesn't any dvd or cdrom drive work when installed on this pc. I've tried 3 different IDE cdrom/dvd drives and one sata dvd drive, none of those work at all but all of the IDE drives work on other pc's and this Sata dvd drive doesn't work at all on anything. Are you saying that this SATA dvd player will never work in dos? my sata hardrive works fine on every pc in dos. Why would I want to use Linux on a gaming pc? |

I contacted Gigabyte support and was told that I had to boot from a bootable cd not from floppy. I am now almost able to install windows, I get to the point that windows is about to start then I get this BSOD error message "Session3_initialization_failed" I've tried upping the voltage on my ram as it was below 2.0 it's now at 2.1 I only have one stick of ram installed, video card, mouse and keyboard. so there should be no hardware problems, This ram was supposedly tested by NCIX.

That is a hardware failure, as found while googling. Now it could be either the DVD drive, the HDD or the PSU, since the CPU is fine (wouldn't POST otherwise) and you tested the ram sticks.

How can I test the psu? the voltage seems to be steady and not fluctuating. The HD in this system is my old HD from my DFI system and it worked fine in that PC, IT doesn't make any tell tale sounds of a HD thats dieing either. I'll try swapping out the dvd drive to a cd drive i have right now and see whats goes on.

I installed an old IDE cdrom and the Windows install hard locked at "windows is about to start" so I opened the cd rom and windows install crashed and gave me this error "Session5_initialization_failed". now I am getting other errors and it won't load a XP install cd. "1.FD 1.44 MB System Type -(1#) CDBOOT: Cannot boot from CD-4" NCIX stated to me earlier this week that they installed windows on this mother board and booted IDE and SATA drives and everything worked fine. I am at a lose as everything isn't "fine" I've tried 4 different drives and none seem to work, even though all of them seem to work on other pc's. I Just finished running all the tests available on the disk utilizes program I downloaded from my hard drives manufacture, my hard drive passed all the test with no problems.
