My System Specs

Default No sound

Every time I open a video or play a youtube vid I lose my sound after viewing it. The only thing that fixes it is a reboot. Seems like the last video that uses the sound driver won't let go of ownership or something. I did check for background apps but there is nothing there that would indicate a problem. Any ideas?

I'm just using the onboard sound (Supreme FX). Have an analog headphone (Tiamat) plugged into the ports. And am using the SPDIF via video card to motherboard over DVI>HDMI to the TV.

I think it's a software problem as this just started happening out of the blue.

Edit: Almost forgot, I can switch to the Speakers/Headphones as default device without issue. However, switching back to SPDIF the problem remains until I reboot.

Thanks Capn'. Went to check that very thing and lo, I had disabled the nvidia services some time ago while trouble shooting something else and forgot to re-enable them. If I don't post back in this thread consider it resolved. No, wait. I suppose I should update it if that was indeed the problem in case others stumble across it. Thanks again.

Is there a way to show your running apps in the bar like Vista? Since upgrading to 7 it is hidden and I never think to check them.

I've had that issue before and it went away. Was probably a bug in flash player.

OK guy's. That seemed to be it! Played a vid from youtube then a Dr.Who file on the hard drive. No more problems with sound.

No, it was the fact that I had nvidia's services disabled. Enabling them seems to have fixed the no sound issue. Rather weird if you ask me.
