Default 2 Laptops with AMD graphics, Chrome, and Youtube acceleration problems

So I've run into a couple issues in the last day or two and I'm kinda stumped. I am doing clean setups of two laptops:
  • Acer Aspire 7750g - i5 2410m w/ Radeon 6850m DDR3
  • Acer Aspire 5253 - AMD C-50

Both have the same issue - despite graphics chipsets capable of accelerating 720 and 1080p YouTube, neither will hardware decode while using Chrome as the browser. The C50 based one appears to accelerate 720p in *shock* Internet Explorer 10. I have not yet tested the same on the other laptop. In both cases Youtube's show video info shows accelerated rendering, but software decode.

Both are running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, the 7750g from a retail disc, and the 5253 from factory restore.

I also haven't checked to see if the issue persists on my desktop, running an nvidia gt 650.

Any ideas? The 7750g can wait, but the 5253 is going to a friend's dad on the weekend and I'd like to have some sort of solution for it by then. Thanks in advance!

I highly doubt it, but I can check it out. Both laptops are running Catalyst 13.3 beta 3 drivers currently, but the issue was present on the C50 using 13.1 WHQL as well.

Also making me think the issue isn't network related is that fact that at least some semblance of acceleration seems to exist in Internet Explorer, and the fact that the video info shows active rendering acceleration, but software decode in Chrome.

EDIT:Just tested it out in Firefox on the C-50 - and it enables acceleration perfectly right off the bat. So it appears to be a Chrome issue. As an aside, realizing it was a mistake to go from the Factory Restore - the system is much snappier on a clean Retail install, and so I'll go ahead and do another wipe/reinstall and see if that changes anything - barring that, I'll just recommend to him to not use Chrome, and go from there.

I've been having issues with videos off the net lately too... I just bounce around between browsers if something isn't working the way I like.

I generally stick with Chrome, and honestly I wouldn't mind just using Firefox or IE10 for Youtube myself, but the C-50 based laptop is going to a friend's Dad and I'm rather particular about making sure any system I give anyone else is as problem-free as possible, so I wanted to see if I could fix the issue.

EDIT: For an interesting side note, hardware decode is also not working in Chrome on my main system, Intel Q6700 @ 3.15 and an Nvidia GTX 650. Looks like a Chrome issue with Youtube. Kind of ironic that the Google browser isn't properly handling Youtube.
