When troubleshooting "no post" issues, make sure your monitor is working properly.

On cheaper motherboards with 4 pin CPU power (Vice 8 Pin) ensure that you line up the latch mech between the connector and recepticle. I've only seen it once, but I had a board where the recepticle was rotated 45deg off of what I was used to, and to top it all off the recepticle was sloppy enough that it wasn't idiot proof.

Fortunately all it did was cause a no post as opposed to doing any damage to the mobo / components.

Drinking does not enhance your ability to assemble friends' rigs.

Maybe not but it increases the enjoyment by at least a factor of 10 :)

Ha! OK then. 8086 boards and PSU's (IBM) back in the day were NOT keyed. Found that out. Twice. Use flashlight.

They weren't keyed but there was a tell tale way of putting them on :)

With that.. 486 and such type motherboards with the AT style keyboard connector.. make sure the system was powered down before hand otherwise a good chance would cook the board.

Yeah, inexperiance+low light levels+cramped case= POP! Whiz! Zowwee! I always had the power off before hand. Throw the switch when you supply 12v to ground though...

AM2 Processors do not fit in am3+ sockets. You bend/break exactly 2 pins and brick your processor.

Found out the hard way with a quad core :(
