It's been a while for me but I believe MS Movie Maker or Live Movie Maker can edit raw video. Sure was happy that the author of FRAPS changed his program to capture large files after I asked him to. Must have been enough people wanting that option.
Anyway, Movie Maker does import .avi so you shouldn't have a problem there. Whilst Live Movie Maker offers limited editing abilities compared to Movie Maker it does allow you to upload to Skydrive. Facebook, Youtube and maybe others.
Edit: I am beginning to believe that BF3 is less GPU/CPU dependent than I originally thought. I think my woes stem from poor net performance on my side and the servers. Not to mention EA's constant dicking around with patches that seem to throw the baby out with the bath water.
