Default Laptop display shuts down

If I have a Dell Inspiron 700m on hand (could very well be any laptop, if I'm not mistaken) that after 1-2 minutes the screen shuts down, it's the inverter that's dying, right?

'cause if I use the VGA out, it's fine. But in Safe mode and in BIOS the screen's behavior is the same.

But if it were the "nappe" it would be always black so yeah, probably the inverter.

Well, take two. Inverter was replaced, and same behavior. Lappy starts, 1-2 minutes into Windows XP screens turns blank. If I use the VGA, it's fine for hours - so it's not the onboard GPU overheating.

What else?

Maybe the backlight is going out? Does it have a red/pink tint?

Also, when the screen "goes out" can you still see the image if you shine a flashlight on the screen?

Negative.

Nothing at all on screen.
