Have you tried pegging the fan speed to 100% with Riva Tuner to verify if it's an overheating problem?

All ATI cards seem to have an issue with fan speeds not ramping up enough to keep the VRMs cool.

I do not believe it is a temp problem it's really cool in my case and it only happens in games.

The only time your GPU is stressed/gets hot is while you're playing games. There have been lots of instances of 3870 cards overheating and causing problems. Do as sswilson suggested. If that doesn't help, let the masses know so we can think of other suggestions. Good luck.

I think you guys were right so far no crash but then again it varys from 1min to -1 1/2
But I think it is the fix.
I have a 80mm fan lying around is there anyway I could use this in cunjunction to not have the gpu fan at 100% all the time?
Thanks.

Thats what I had to do I did think that My 3870 card was that hot but I did wjhat was suggested here with riva turner and never have had a problem since even in full ET game servers I get no lag or anything all I have to do is remember to turn the riva tuner fan control to about 50% and I am fine so I would try that also it doesn't take long and it doesn't hurt to just check it out
