Blurry Text/Images At 120Hz
I just bought a dual link dvi cable to hook up my VG236H to my gtx 670. All is well at 60Hz but when I set the refresh rate to 100Hz or above, the display becomes very fuzzy. Here's some photos to show what I mean.

At 60Hz:

At 100Hz:

It could be that I just a have a faulty dual link dvi cable because what I see at 100Hz with the dual link cable is exactly like what I see with a single link cable. But other than that, maybe there's something else I'm missing?

do you have a 120 hz monitor! If not.... running 100hz will not work.

I'm thinking it's your able... Do you have a DP cable lying around to test?

The monitor does not have DP inputs, unfortunately. I could try a DP->DVI cable but I'd rather not buy another thing for this set up.

i would say contact asus support on the forum and see what they can do also check it whit other cable if you can.

It's your cable for sure. I see this all the time with the included dual link cables that come with monitors.

Thanks, everyone. I'll have the cable replaced then report back.

I got a replacement cable from the store. Interestingly, that didn't work either. It seems like supposed dual link dvi cables like these are not uncommon based the two trips to different stores that I had to make, and NCIX forums.

Am I mistaken in thinking that the dual link DVI spec is supposed to be able to carry a 120Hz signal, or are these cable manufacturers just being assholes?

Chareon August 24, 2012 10:44 AM

Manufacturers just being assholes. I've bought cables specifically listed as being dual link before that weren't at all. It's just a major pain which is why I've migrated to Displayport whenever possible myself.

I finally got the monitor to smoothly display at 120Hz with a more expensive cable. Thanks everyone for your help and screw you, false advertising. Time to enjoy that 120Hz goodness.
