Default Computer restarting?

Since setting up WC, my computer will restart in the middle of a game. Usually after 30 mins to 1 hour. I backed off my OC to 250 from 260mhz and all seems fine. Temps on cpu and gpu's are low. But like I said before NB is pretty hot and noticed that my mem is very warm also. Is it possible the lack of cpu fan's airflow is causing my restarts. Played for over an hour after lowering 10mhz with no problems. Any body try those active mem coolers? Any good?

I suppose I could just aim a fan at my mem and NB. If it dosen't restart I'll have my answer. I should think before I post lol.

I use the new OCZ Ram cooler and it keeps my ram pretty cool even when running it at 2.35v

I was actually considering that one or the corsair one.

It's a strong possiblity, but don't just focus on the northbridge or mem.

It could be any number of mobo components that are not getting enough air.

On my DFI board, the PWM (IIRC similar to VRMs on vid cards) tends to overheat which limits OC capabilities.

It's not just the fact that the cpu fan is gone, the other WC components restrict airflow as well.

Good airflow is essential to the kind of high OC's that folks expect when they switch to WC.

(I have the OCZ mem cooler, but I didn't notice any difference in OC capabilities after I installed it).

Speaking of VRMs....... :)

Does it actually restart, or does it just black screen on you?

30 min of hardcore gaming is a bit long, but the 1950pros had issues with their vrm's which black screened after about 10 - 15 min of gaming. (The GPU temps were fine, but immediately after black screening the GPU fan would peg itself to 100%).

Different vid card, but if you have similar symptoms you might want to direct more air over the vid cards.

I'm all over it lol. Thanks Wilson. I also checked the PWM, was also very hot. I placed a cpu fan so that it blows across these parts and they are running considerably cooler . Starting 6 days on tomorrow so won't have a chance to thoroughly test yet though. If I wasn't bald already I think I would have pulled all my hair out by now lol. Oh well. I'll get the bugs out eventually.... I hope:)

What are you using for stressing the components?

It's a lot easier to fault-find if you get a couple of good stressing apps that you can run to test things out rather than waiting for a game to "randomly" do it.

Having it restart while gaming might be either heavy processing (cpu or mobo) or GPU related.

If you can recreate the symptoms while running something like prime95 you can pretty well take your gpu out of the desnagging process and focus on cpu/mobo, conversly if running something like freestone's 3d stress program causes it to restart you can focus on the vid cards.

Neither did i see a difference. Just makes me feel safer as when i touch the ram it's not hot... just warm.
