Default 6+970 crazy temps

had to replace thermal pads on both sapphire 6970 ref cards reapplied tim on both gpus plus new thermal pads but getting crazy temps on load jumps from 40 to 100 deg in a matter of seconds can any one tell me what thicknes of pads i need

Are you manually controlling the fan?

What paste did you use and how much? is the heatsink properly making contact?

ya on 100 percent all the time 39 deg on idle when under load jumps straight to 100 deg

wouldnt you just use the thermal pads in place of the tim. 1st I've heard of people using both...

I imagine he's using thermal pads for the VRAM and TIM for the GPU itself.

Check that the pads aren't too think, and preventing the gpu core from making good contact with the heatsink. So pull the heatsink off and check if the thermal paste has been spread out or if it still in a ball or line like how you applied it.

it is spread out could i have damaged any of the chips would that cause over heating

Just reapply, your wasting $.50 on some thermal paste, better then toasting hundreds in graphics card.
